We provide access to video production equipment and facilities, and multimedia training to help county residents create and share their own media content. Additionally, MCM provides media production services to other nonprofit organizations and county government agencies to meet their video production needs. Our team also creates and shares hyper-local news stories, providing residents with reliable, trustworthy information about their communities. Production and Studios Manager

Summary:

Responsible for supervising internal and external production projects, production and studio staff and all collaborative production projects with partners and clients. Lead revenue generation through production services, content creation and partnerships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Full supervisory responsibility for the efficient operation of production and studio staffs, full-time and part-time union employees and freelance contractors. Lead and manage production and studio staff, including scheduling, coaching and training, facilities and equipment.
  • Point person for all communications, assignments and coordination involving MCM production department, projects and services; internally and externally. Lead internal interdepartmental collaboration around multiplatform projects, including broadcast programming, live stream and web content production.
  • Work closely with Executive Producer to raise the bar for high quality content programs, products and services. Help identify production projects for distribution on all MCM platforms. Create processes and policies for staff to bring consistent high standards to all MCM productions. Manage staff equipment needs; working with Tech/Operations staff on equipment care and procurement.
  • Solicit revenue by identifying mission-related fee-for-service production contracts and opportunities (i.e. nonprofits, government agencies, etc.). Working with Executive Producer, develop suitable production projects, plans and deliverables for potential clients. Manage and meet measurable annual revenue goals.
  • Manage client service productions, including preparation, detailed budgets, timelines, deliverables, payment and financial schedules and finalization of related contracts. Present proposals to prospects, manage the pitching process and collaborate on funding relationships when appropriate. Deliver promised program concept and quality. Create rate cards, project cost estimations, bids, proposal materials, and project production budgets.
  • Manage fulfillment of all production requirements for service contracts with co-production partners, grantors, and third-party clients. Must meet deadlines and quality standards. Manage Montgomery County Government production service contract and act as liaison with County Government contract administrators.
  • Working with MCM leadership on preparation of job descriptions, recruiting, training and managing staff, conducting performance evaluations, and creating work schedules to accommodate department and company needs, as it concerns full time and part time employees, contractual labor and consultants.
  • Administration of company-union contracts and union employee relations (NABET) and issues and contract negotiation participation;
  • Annual planning, development and administration of departmental budget. This includes appropriation of funds to specific line items, monthly review of financial statement of revenue and expenses, monitoring expenses on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, and analyzing trends for future expenditures and revenue.
  • Responsible for quarterly reporting of department benchmarks, activities in the form of written reports, documents and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree in communications, film or television production or related field.
  • Five years of mid-level organizational and managerial experience, production and/or television production leadership experience in commercial and/or non-profit organizations.
  • Experience in client relations; communications, assessing client needs, managing project deliverables.
  • Expertise in managing multi-camera studio productions, remote location productions, web/live streaming; proficiency in technical requirements and equipment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of production-funding and various approaches to commercial revenue- generating projects.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in production contract administration with experience in company-union contracts and union employee relations and issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of project management and/or production management software; generating reports.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects, take ownership of issues/projects and possess strong influencing skills and the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management inside and outside of organizations.

Salary range is 60-70K

 


Production Coordinator / Senior Production Technician

This position is responsible for the technical aspects of Montgomery Community Media (MCM) including directing productions.  Acts as company Senior Technical Director on productions. Performs all the duties of and the supervision of Production Technicians.

Duties & Responsibilities:
All of the below functions are essential for this position:

  • Responsibility for the technical aspects of productions, including directing productions. Provide coordination, scheduling and supervision of production technicians.
  • Train, monitor, evaluate and report to supervisor on quality of work performance of production technicians. Prepare production technicians performance evaluations for review and approval by supervisor.
  • Recommend training or other action to remedy any below-standard work performance of any production technician.
  • Create, maintain and modify when appropriate, written procedures and standards for productions and production technicians.
  • Performing all of the duties of and the supervision of Production Technicians.
  • Performs the technical functions of production through the production department, including participating in field and studio productions.
  • Assist in the training of other production technicians on technical aspects of equipment use.
  • Performs the setup and take down tasks of all staging material relative to production.
  • Work as playback operator if qualified and if requested by Management.
  • This position requires membership in The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians – Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA).
  • Responsible for other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Skills Required:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree required with background in Film and Television Production, Communication or Public Administration or related. Relevant work experience may substitute for each year of required education.
  • Commitment to community media and Public, Education, and Government (PEG) access cable television, first amendment rights and public interest telecommunications.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with production and technical teams.
  • Experience in studio technical positions (TD, CG, Audio, Cam) desired.
  • One year of digital post-production experience using Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Two years of production experience with an emphasis on EFP, ENG and studio style production. Including but not limited to handheld camera work and multi-cam productions.
  • Experience directing and the ability to coordinate production crew(s) essential.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Must be familiar with broadcast and industrial video production equipment and have a strong working knowledge of analog and digital formats.
  • Must be familiar with and possess advanced computer skills including reading waveform monitors.
  • Must be familiar and possess advanced technical skills including directing, camera-work, lighting, and editing.
  • Team-oriented, people person with creative problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, management, and the community.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure on an ongoing basis.
  • Self-motivated, works effectively under pressure, detail and deadline-oriented, multi-tasking abilities a must.

Production Technician Part Time

This position assists Production Coordinators in the technical aspects of production for County Council and MCT productions. Work as a production team member on a variety of studio and field productions and provide guidance to maintain a professional atmosphere.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Production Coordinators with the technical aspects of all productions including site survey, equipment pack-up, set-up, production, strike, and equipment storage.
  • Participate as an assigned crew member for various productions. Assigned crew responsibilities include all studio and field positions.
  • Develop production skills as camera operator, technical director, audio person, studio supervisor, teleprompter and lighting set up.
  • Act as a temporary replacement for Production and Post-Production Coordinator on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist producers in creation and coordination of program production.
  • Assist with studio set-up and facilities oversight.
  • Maintain and follow all production and post-production procedures to ensure the highest production standards.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Position requires two to five years of production experience, with an emphasis on EFP, ENG and studio style production.
  • Familiar with broadcast and industrial video production equipment and have a strong working knowledge of digital formats.
  • Familiar with and possess advanced technical skills including camerawork, lighting, ENG, live streaming and non-linear editing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production, or related Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree also may apply. Adequate work experience may substitute for education requirement.
  • Commitment to community media, Public, Education and Government (PEG) access cable television, first amendment rights and public interest telecommunications.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with production and technical teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with government agencies, community groups and individuals unfamiliar with the production process.
  • Proven track record in video production, including, planning and oversight, in the development of video programs and/or customer service to content producers.
  • Working knowledge and experience in a variety of video production environments, equipment and/or systems, and Mac or PC-based applications and tools, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Clean driving record and valid MD Driver’s License. Ability to provide own transportation to attend meetings and events away from the office.

Teaching Assistant

This is a temporary, part-time position with hours flexible according to training schedules averaging approximately 4-20 hours per week. Heavy emphasis on evening and weekend hours.

Duties Include:

  • Assist in Instruction – To be knowledgeable about all classroom procedure and media equipment applications. To assist instructors in all aspects of media training, which may include field production or studio classes.
  • In the field production class teaching assistants will assist in teaching the operation of cameras, videotape recorders, lights, microphones, audio and editing equipment.
  • In the studio class teaching assistants will set up the studio and assist in teaching cameras, switcher, character generator, audio board, podcasting, media recorders, teleprompter, and lighting.
  • Student Supervision – To act as an MCT representative supervising student project, edit sessions, or productions. To ensure equipment safety and adherence to project guidelines.
  • Set up studio and classroom prior to production or class.
  • Certification Testing – Administer and evaluate written & demonstration tests for certification.
  • Assist in the production of MCM-supervised programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Community Journalism Intern

  • Work with ECE team to workshop and write internal community blog posts.
  • Conduct outreach to recruit community members to contribute to community blog.
  • Support community members throughout the entire writing process (includes research, writing, editing).
  • Attend in person events, interview/speak with community members and write up.
  • Interview and engage attendees of community events.

Marketing Intern

  • Collect and track quantitative and qualitative data (engagement, reach, etc.) from social media, email, and marketing campaigns and posts
  • Work with the marketing team to update and plan the editorial content calendar
  • Provide support for marketing team at in person and online events
  • Research, design, and present new social media and marketing campaign ideas
  • Write clear and concise copy that speaks to the target audience
  • Brainstorm and create new and original content across all social media platforms
  • Aid the marketing team in community outreach and partnership building and communications
  • Ensure brand voice and message is consistent across all platforms and public facing documents and campaigns
  • Work closely with our Education and Community Engagement team to promote classes, events, and projects
